Nuevo Baztán unveils a new signposted route through its Arboretum and an Interpretation Area dedicated to the Alcarria landscape

24 April 2026

The Town Council of Nuevo Baztán has launched a project to strengthen its tourism offering from a sustainable perspective. The initiative includes the creation of a signposted route through its Arboretum, as well as the installation of a wooden pergola that will serve as an outdoor nature classroom and a viewpoint for interpreting the unique landscape of the Madrid Alcarria.

Carried out this year under the name “Ecosystem Enhancement: Arboretum and Alcarria Interpretation Area,” the project has been made possible through the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destinations, part of the 2023 Territorial Plan of the Comunidad de Madrid. It is funded by the European Union through the Next Generation EU funds במסגרת the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

Renowned for its remarkable historical and artistic heritage, Nuevo Baztán now takes a step forward in showcasing its natural assets, enriching the overall visitor experience. This initiative will help diversify the destination’s appeal, encouraging longer stays and promoting activities connected to the natural environment.

The Arboretum features a clearly marked route showcasing plant species representative of the local area and region, complemented by informative panels that help visitors identify and learn about the local flora. At its heart stands a wooden pergola, designed as a nature classroom and landscape interpretation point, where visitors can discover the historical relationship between the natural environment and the development of Nuevo Baztán.

Both spaces will be connected to the Historic Complex via a bike lane and will include QR codes linking to expanded digital content on the official tourism website, offering an educational, accessible and engaging experience for all audiences.

The goal is for visitors not only to enjoy the surroundings, but also to understand and appreciate them. Knowledge fosters respect and conservation.

Promoted by the Department of Tourism, this initiative contributes to Climate Tag 50 and aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land, supporting biodiversity conservation and the responsible use of natural resources.

With this project, Nuevo Baztán reinforces its commitment to a balanced, sustainable and environmentally respectful tourism model, expanding its appeal beyond its historic complex and positioning itself as a destination for nature, culture and shared experiences.

The Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destinations of Nuevo Baztán is part of the 2023 Territorial Plan of the Comunidad de Madrid and promotes a development model based on heritage protection, technological innovation, citizen participation and territorial cohesion, creating new opportunities for residents, businesses and visitors alike.
