More than culture

Nuevo Baztán is known for its historic heritage; however, it also boasts an attractive natural environment and a wide range of sporting activities.

Its landscapes, traditional trails and large recreational areas allow outdoor activities all year round, making the municipality a perfect place for physical activity (walking, running, cycling), for enjoying sporting events, or simply unwinding in the middle of nature.

Below you will find the main routes and activities available in our municipality.

CiclaMadrid Route

For cycling enthusiasts, our municipality is part of the CiclaMadrid Grand Tour, a route of more than 420 km through UNESCO destinations and the Villas of Madrid. Nuevo Baztán is included in stages 3 and 4.

Of these two, stage 3: Through the Madrid Alcarria towards the Goyeneche Palace, runs via Villarejo de Salvanés, where the route leads on to Carabaña. Along this stretch, olive groves and vineyards abound. From Carabaña, now along the banks of the Tajuña, the route passes through Orusco de Tajuña, Ambite and Olmeda de las Fuentes, gradually climbing towards the plateau. The stage ends in our municipality, Nuevo Baztán, a cultural jewel and a unique pre-Enlightenment town.

Cervantes Trail and Cornisa del Páramo Route

From Torrejón Hospital, the Cervantes Trail routes are organised. In our municipality, the hiking and running day takes place along the Valmores Trail, on a 6 km circular route, with the aim of promoting public health.

For experienced athletes who want a longer route, the Valmores Trail route is part of the Cornisa del Páramo Route, route no. 4 of the Middle Tajuña Valley.

From the Cervantes Trail, Section B of the Cornisa del Páramo Route passes through Olmeda de las Fuentes, and for those who want to organise it as a route around the region, they can continue on Section C towards Villar del Olmo, alongside the Eurovillas residential development.

Cartel-Senda-Galiana

Hiking on the Senda Galiana and Fuente del Rey Complex

It starts at the Descansadero de la Fuente del Rey and has an approximate length of 3.5 km, about 50 minutes on foot. It first crosses the Monteacevedo residential development and then crosses the Las Villas development.

It is signposted as a drovers’ route (vía pecuaria), and its course is relatively easy, with a moderate elevation change within the municipal area of Nuevo Baztán.

This route can be done both on foot and by bicycle, and beyond the municipality it continues through Corpa until the Cordel joins the main Cañada Real Galiana-Riojana, which runs between Ciudad Real and La Rioja and is one of the peninsula’s main Roman connection routes.

Churrigueresca Race

For running enthusiasts, the Sports Department organises the Churrigueresca Race every year in September, starting at the Juan de Goyeneche Palace. This race is held in two different formats:

  • 10-kilometre trail running
  • Non-competitive hiking option, 5.6 kilometres.

Designed for all audiences, there are categories for all ages: Juniors (1 to 15 years old with authorisation), Senior (16 to 39 years old), Veterans (40 to 49 years old) and Veterans B (50 years and over)

Register early to secure your bib number and the right T-shirt size, and don’t forget to take part in the prize-giving ceremony.

Rally - Nuevo Baztán Timed Gravel Stage

It is one of the municipality’s most outstanding sporting events and a well-established fixture in Madrid motorsport. Every year it brings together drivers and fans on a gravel route that runs along the rural tracks and paths within the municipal area.

The event, organised by the Madrid Automobile Federation and Escudería Centro, is known for its fast, technical layout and excellent visibility for spectators, allowing everyone to enjoy gravel driving in a safe, well-organised environment.

Having reached its 5th edition in 2025, it has established itself as another major sporting event of great interest to motorsport enthusiasts.
