Route of the Historic Complex of Nuevo Baztán

For every visitor, a route through the historic complex is recommended, and for this we have compiled the most classic points of a visit to the municipality in a route of around 45 minutes.

With it, you will be able to see, in order, the Goyeneche Palace, the Church of San Francisco Javier, Plaza de la Iglesia, Plaza del Mercado (or Plaza del Secreto), Plaza de Fiestas, La Fonda, Plaza de la Cebada and the Interpretation Centre, which we always recommend for a more immersive experience.

Juan de Goyeneche Trail

The route between Olmeda de las Fuentes (formerly Olmeda de las Cebollas) and Nuevo Baztán aims to become a leisure walk through the shared history of both places, rediscovering the birth of a settlement from its original village and, at the same time, highlighting what the lord of Olmeda created and developed from his lordship.

This is the path that, in the past, the workers and residents of Goyeneche’s manufacturing complex used to take when they went to the religious services held in Olmeda, before the territory was split into the two current municipalities, and before the construction of the Church of San Francisco Javier.

Along this trail, so valuable to the towns, there are historical and informational points with the most relevant events from 1705 to 1735, between the beginning of activity in Olmeda and the death of Juan de Goyeneche, including the start of the manufacturing complex and the dramatic process of separation between the towns.

This trail is in the process of completing its improvements; with a total length of more than 3 km, it will include specific paving for the route and rest areas at points of historical or scenic interest.

Centro de Interpretación

Nuevo Baztán Interpretation Centre

The Interpretation Centre is located in the former Palace Wineries, in the building that at one time served as the wine-boiling room, as can be seen in the distinctive internal channels that carried the wine and the spaces for the ceramic jars.

Rehabilitated in 2003, the building was converted into an interpretation centre, where you can see an exhibition on the evolution of Nuevo Baztán in the creation of the town and the different industrial products that were manufactured there.

We also encourage you to watch the short audiovisual, which narratively explains—through the key figures of our history—how the founding of such a project, ahead of its time, came about.
