Nuevo Baztán celebrates 303 years of history with Fiestas de la Fundación full of Life and Tradition.
16 October 2026
This past weekend, Nuevo Baztán celebrated its Fiestas de la Fundación 2026, marking the town’s foundation with three days of fine weather, community participation and pride in its history and traditions.
The foundation festivities’ Palace Market welcomed many local residents and visitors, who enjoyed a programme of workshops, live music, exhibitions, storytelling and guided tours exploring the town’s heritage. Two evening fire shows cast the façades of the Church of San Francisco Javier and the Palace in a special light.
Local food also took centre stage with two community meals: on Saturday, potatoes with chistorra, a traditional sausage, prepared by the Nuevo Baztán-Veauche Twinning Association in honour of the town’s Navarrese origins; and on Sunday, migas del pastor, a traditional shepherd’s dish made with breadcrumbs, prepared by the town’s older residents.
The celebrations also included a solemn Mass marking the anniversary of the foundation, which commemorates the consecration of the Church of San Francisco Javier.
The Town Council thanks municipal staff, local associations, the Local Police, Civil Protection volunteers and everyone who helped make these celebrations possible.
303 years on, Nuevo Baztán continues to celebrate its history, share its traditions and bring its Historic Ensemble to life.
