Nuevo Baztán once again becomes a hub for culture with the arrival of a new exhibition from the Community of Madrid’s Itiner Network. From 23 June to 15 July, the exhibition halls of the Palace of Juan de Goyeneche will host “Marisa Flórez. A Time to Look (1970–2020)”, a unique opportunity to discover the work of one of the leading figures in Spanish photojournalism.

Born in León in 1948, Marisa Flórez has devoted more than five decades to photography and visual journalism. Her outstanding career has earned her numerous prestigious awards, including the National Graphic Journalism Prize (1981), the Piedad Isla Award (2015), and the Community of Madrid Culture Prize (2024).

Flórez began her professional career in 1971 with the newspaper Informaciones and spent much of her working life at El País, where she served between 1976 and 2012 as a photojournalist, editor and head of the photography department. Her work is distinguished by its ability to combine the documentary power of photography with an elegant and deeply personal artistic vision.

The exhibition brings together 36 photographs capturing some of the most significant moments in Spain’s recent history. Through these images, visitors can explore political, social and cultural milestones that shaped an era, from the consolidation of democracy and the opening of parliamentary life to the first citizen-led demonstrations and the arrival of Guernica in Spain.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to appreciate the visual richness and narrative strength of the artist’s work through portraits, group scenes, close-up compositions and striking contrasts that reveal both the human dimension and the historical significance of each moment captured.

“Marisa Flórez. A Time to Look (1970–2020)” also pays tribute to one of the pioneers of Spanish photojournalism, whose achievements helped open doors in a profession traditionally dominated by men and played a key role in the renewal of press photography in Spain.

The exhibition is curated by Mónica Carabias Álvaro and organised by the Regional Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport of the Community of Madrid as part of the Itiner Network programme.

The exhibition will be open during Tourist Office opening hours from 23 June to 15 July 2026 in the Exhibition Halls of the Palace of Juan de Goyeneche, Nuevo Baztán. Admission is free.
