This weekend, 11–12 October, Nuevo Baztán dresses up in period style to celebrate the Foundation Festivities, with a programme packed with activities for all ages.
Over two days, residents and visitors can enjoy a Palace Market, historical exhibitions, theatre, magic and puppet shows, craft workshops, parades, live music, popular tastings and re-enactments that take us back to the 18th century.
A unique opportunity to relive our history, share as a community and celebrate the legacy of Juan de Goyeneche with joy, art and participation.
Come and experience the festivities—because in Nuevo Baztán, history comes alive!
Programme of Activities
Saturday
9:00 7th Quick Painting Contest – Participant check-in at the Town Hall.
11:00 Arrival of the authorities – Live music and participatory dances. The party begins!
Opening of the Palace Market – Crafts, flavours and tradition on every corner.

After the official opening, the day continues with a full programme of shows, workshops and unique experiences:
11:30 Puppet Theatre: The Treasures of the Seven Seas – A seafaring adventure for the youngest visitors.
12:00 Dramatised guided tour – Visit the exhibition Medicine in the 18th century with period characters.
From 12:00 Glass-blowing workshops – Live art and creativity in motion.
Magic show – Illusions to amaze young and old.
12:30 Participatory theatre: The Treasure Hunt – Children follow clues to find a chest full of chocolate coins.
13:00 Parade, live music and period dance workshop – Take part and dance like in the 18th century!
13:30 Sword forging in the blacksmith’s workshop – Watch a real forge create this unique piece.
14:00 Street theatre: Explorers of the New World – Surprising stories for everyone.
14:30 Tasting of potatoes with chistorra – Prepared by the Nuevo Baztán–Veauche Twinning Association (Church Square).
17:00 Arrival of the Governor’s troops – Participatory roaming theatre. Someone has warned of the presence of bandits!
Submission and exhibition of works from the 6th Quick Painting Contest – Goyeneche Palace.

20:00 Children’s participatory battle – Foam swords and confetti cannons. Guaranteed fun!

21:00 Great fire show – juggling, magic, sword fights with flaming swords, participatory dances, live music and a popular queimada.
Sunday
The Foundation Festivities return for a second day with a programme full of shows, workshops and moments to share. Come and celebrate 302 years of history in Nuevo Baztán!
11:00 Arrival of the authorities – Accompanied by musicians, jugglers and dancers. Let the celebration begin!
