Nuevo Baztán Town Council continues to move forward with the aesthetic and functional improvement of the municipality through its Beautification Plan. The aim is to enhance the town’s welcome image and restore areas of historical and natural value.
One of the key elements of this phase is the work being carried out at the northern entrance. The project has focused on enhancing this main access point, creating a more carefully maintained and attractive setting for both residents and visitors arriving in the town.
A highlight of these actions is the restoration of the public fountain located between Camino del Boleo and Senda Valmores. The fountain’s hydraulic elements have been repaired to restore its functionality. This has included the inspection and replacement of pipes, as well as the cleaning and restoration of the structure. In this way, an emblematic meeting point is being recovered for hikers and residents who enjoy the town’s natural surroundings. The area around the fountain has been paved with a combination of rounded pebbles and square slabs of local limestone, creating a visually appealing finish in keeping with the historic character of the setting. Two limestone benches, a solar-powered light, trees and local shrubs have also been installed. In addition, the area now features an automated drip irrigation system, managed by sensors that adjust the amount of water according to weather conditions and the needs of the land.
An intelligent irrigation system has also been installed around the motorhome area. This technological improvement will enable much more efficient water management, ensuring the optimal upkeep of the space.
More recycled urban furniture has also been installed, along with a water fountain for pets and visitors. In addition, native species have been replanted, strengthening local biodiversity and ensuring that the landscape remains fully integrated into the area’s ecosystem. This intervention has involved an investment of nearly 50,000 euros, co-financed by the Community of Madrid and the Town Council.
To complement this action, improvements to Camino del Boleo will also be carried out along this entrance route through another grant from the Community of Madrid, awarded for the repair of damage caused by the latest DANA storm event.
In addition, paving and connection works with Calle Palacio are already underway. This action forms part of the climate change prevention and adaptation project included in the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan, consisting of the renewal of the paving in the Historic Quarter. The project is part of the 2023 Territorial Plan of the Community of Madrid and is funded by the European Union through Next Generation EU funds, within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Meanwhile, three information panels on cycle tourism routes in the region have been installed in the motorhome area. These panels have been provided by ARACOVE, the Local Action Group for the Southeast of the Community of Madrid.
