The Community of Madrid is advancing restoration and conservation work at the Palacio de Goyeneche.

20 October 2026

The Palacio de Goyeneche, one of the Community of Madrid’s leading historic and cultural landmarks, is set to undergo further restoration and conservation work promoted by the regional government. The works will cover the building’s roofs and façades, as well as its cellar, to improve their preservation and ensure these spaces are safe.

The Community of Madrid’s Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport has completed the tendering process and formalised the contract for the restoration of the roof, east façade and central courtyard of the Palacio de Goyeneche.

The project will focus on the east façade and the roofs facing the Plaza de Fiestas. The works include structural repairs, roof insulation and waterproofing, as well as work on the roof slope overlooking the central courtyard in that section of the building. Missing window grilles will also be installed.

The base tender budget for this contract is €411,036.54, excluding VAT. The tender was published in May 2026, and the award procedure and contract formalisation were completed in August of the same year.

A separate contract has also been awarded by the Community of Madrid’s Department of Economy, Finance and Employment for structural stabilisation work in the cellar of the Palacio de Goyeneche.

The contract was awarded for €396,784.57, excluding VAT, with a completion period of 217 days. It was formalised on 27 August 2026. Together, the two projects amount to almost one million euros, including VAT.

These projects bring further investment in a landmark building in Nuevo Baztán, as part of ongoing efforts to preserve its architectural features and improve safety.

The Palacio de Goyeneche is a cornerstone of Nuevo Baztán’s historic ensemble and a defining part of its cultural identity and heritage. Preserving this legacy is essential to safeguarding the town’s historic character and continuing to share it with residents and visitors.

For the duration of the works, the areas affected and the nearby squares will NOT be available for municipal activities. These spaces include the interior courtyard, the Interpretation Centre, the Plaza de Fiestas and the Campa Municipal. As a result, many activities usually held in these locations will be affected, including the Three Kings reception, the Javierada celebrations and the town’s patron saint festivities, which will need to move to other venues within the municipality.
