King’s Font Ensemble

It is a spring of laxative and diuretic waters that were chosen by the Kings of Spain Philip II, Philip III, Philip IV, and Charles II, as well as nobles who used it as a remedy. It was so well-known that even the king's sommeliers had to ensure its good condition, and it was mentioned in several literary works. 

 

 The Fuente del Rey Complex is located on the Cañada Real Galiana, and consists of a spring and a fountain-trough that makes the water available to travelers. On a rectangular stone monolith, an engraving appears: “Fuente del Rey. Whose health-giving waters were drunk at the tables of the kings and even sent to Flanders”
