Festival Square
Description
Imposing from an aesthetic and constructive point of view, its function causes disagreement among experts. For some, it was the location of the Palace's service, while for others, it was the functional and utilitarian center of the complex where workshops and artisans were located in the Trade Houses. What is certain is that all the houses have a T-shaped layout, which distinguishes them from the rest.
The design used the model of a Castilian square with the use of plastered lowered arches and Moorish brick in the upper gallery, and wrought iron for the railings, all of which are materials known as traditional (Madrid architecture) also used to provide ornamentation to the upper gallery.
Its festive use has endured from its origin until now, where popular celebrations, bullfights, open-air cinema, concerts, and theater bring life to this spectacular historical space, which still retains the balconies from which Goyeneche and the Royal Family enjoyed the celebrations.
